What Happens to All Those Christmas Trees?

On January 7th and 13th, four staff from the CRA Sault Ste. Marie office assisted Clean North with its 16th annual Tree Chipping Event.  More than 2,500 Christmas trees were diverted from landfills and mulched on Sunday January 14, 2007.

Natural trees are still the best environmental choice to celebrate Christmas because less energy is used in their creation and transportation.  Artificial trees eventually end up at the landfill while natural trees can be recycled as mulch.

During the 3-week Tree Chipping Event, Clean North also collected about three dozen cell phones and toner cartridges, 10 boxes of used books for Friends of the Library, and two dozen bags of towels and blankets for the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society.
