Brownfield Redevelopment Services

BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT SERVICES

CRA has been performing "brownfield redevelopment" since before the term "brownfield" came into common usage.  The Love Canal project in Niagara Falls, New York, in the late 1970s is often considered the initial catalyst in the evolution of what has become today's brownfield programs, and CRA was and remains the environmental consultant on that project.

CRA has been involved in responsive and cost-effective remediation of hundreds of underutilized industrial and/or commercial properties across North America.  Beneficial new end-uses have often been an important element in the development of an effective remedial solution.  Examples include turning a huge automotive manufacturing complex into an industrial business park in Detroit, a chemical manufacturing plant in Indiana into a shopping mall, and an aluminum foundry in Toronto into a "big box" store.

CRA is creative in the sharing of the costs, rewards, and benefits of a redevelopment project.  In joint venture with WHI Real Estate Partners, a division of William Harris Investors, Inc., CRA sponsors Brownfield Renaissance Partners LLC (BRP), a private equity firm established to invest in environmentally impaired real estate throughout the U.S. and Canada.

CRA staff serve in leadership roles for local chapters of the National Brownfield Association (NBA), are regular contributors to NBA publications, and give presentations at national and international brownfield conferences.
